What is the Endocrine System? The endocrine system is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, amongst other things.
How do messages through the Endocrine System travel? They travel through the blood via hormones
Where is the Hypothalamus located? In the Brain
What hormones does the Hypothalamus produce? Neuro-hormones
What tissue/area does the hypothalamus target? Pituitary Gland
What are the main effects of the Hypothalamus? Controls body temperature, hunger, attachment behaviours, thirst, fatigue, sleep and circadian rhythms.
Where are the ovaries located? On a female, around the pelvis.
What hormone(s) does the ovaries produce? Progesterone and Oestrogen.
What tissue/area do the ovaries target? The Eggs and the Uterus.
What is the main effect of the ovaries? FertilityMenstrual cycleControls female sexual development
Where are the testes located? around the male's pelvis
